I am running for the office of City Council District 5 because I feel that I have something to offer to my community. I have lived in the City of Taylorsville for as long as it has been a city, even before it was incorporated. I have loved this area, and I have received so much from my friends, neighbors, and the city that I feel it is a good time to “give back” through serving this wonderful city.
I have worked with the University of Utah for the past 15 years. I have learned more about the importance of transparency and compliance to regulations. My role is specifically in the area of budget and finance, and I take joy in working to ensure that we have everything being operated properly, “above the table,”, where all can see that every step is being followed in terms of regulations and care of the finances. I feel that it is critical that we work to live within our means.
Taylorsville City has the same accountability to its citizens. We must take care of tax dollars that are collected from citizens, and we should live within our means. Finances should cover the most critical needs and only be expanded when there are true needs that cannot be covered without increases to taxes. We should work to examine what it has available, what is funded, and if there are any reasonable cuts that can be made in order to minimize the effect of tax increases on the citizens. In this way, I feel that the City Council has a responsibility to be accountable to its citizens, a group that can be trusted to put the interests of the city at the forefront.
The leadership of Taylorsville City has done a great job in the past, and I feel that we can improve as we move into the future. Part of that includes moving to the future with those who are willing to do more than look to increase budgets through more appropriations from citizens. I feel that as a lifelong resident, I can provide unique insights as I have seen Taylorsville evolve from a part of Salt Lake County to its own thriving city.
My involvement with the City Council is not a career move. My intent to be involved with the City Council is to serve the community that I love and to be part of the process to keep our city growing.
Thank you for your consideration for me as a candidate for the City Council, and I look forward to talking with you about how I might be able to help this community of ours.
